  • Never Powerless

      Article by Peter Golin

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know. . . his incomparable great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”
    Ephesians 1:18-19

What amazing power is for us and at work in us who believe. The power of God that raised our Lord Jesus from the dead, that is the power that we have in him. How can we ever grasp this magnificent truth? No wonder Jesus said that mountains can be moved, and a tree can be uprooted and replanted if we have but faith like a mustard seed. Just imagine the tremendous power in us.

And how, exactly, are we to put this power to good use? Are our hearts open to understanding and appreciating this tremendous gift? Are we ready to see the astonishing things God can do in us when we come before him with receptive and humble hearts? There are periods in my life when I especially long to witness the power of God at work, praying day after day and night after night for the Lord to demonstrate his power in my life so that I can see the wonders that come from his strong hand. In times when I feel so weak and helpless, I need to be reminded that the One who holds all the power in the world is presently strengthening me, supporting me, building me up, and protecting me. If the power of God raised our Lord Jesus from the dead, he can surely raise me up from these deep valleys and raging seas of pain. He is the solid rock upon which my feet are firmly and unshakably planted, so let me simply believe that his all-surpassing power is able to keep me firm and secure within even the most tempestuous storms of life.

     Prayer
     Dear God,

Thank you for Christ’s death and resurrection. Thank you that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in me through Christ. Remind me every day that you are the One who holds all the power in the world, and by that same power, you are strengthening me, supporting me, building me up, and protecting me. I come to you today with an open and humble heart, longing to witness your power working in me and through me. May your power keep me firm and secure in my faith in Christ and in my obedience to your Word, even in the deep valleys and raging storms of my pain. I pray these things in the powerful name of Jesus.

In what and whom do you draw power from—God’s power, your own strengths and abilities, or something else?
